Poco Beauty launched it first product in November 2023 and was met with a hugely positive reaction. Poco is the brainchild of Pippa O’Connor and Brian Ormond. It is already a well known brand of fashion clothing and extending that brand into beauty was a natural move for the 2 founders. I came on board in January 2023 to design their packaging and retail artwork. The brand emphasis is luxury yet affordable. I can’t say it’s target market is one group over another specifically because it is simply attracts all people of ages, genders and professions! Pippa is very involved in all product development and it is entirely her vision that you see when you purchase the products. The brand look is understated elegance with a range of gorgeous neutral and warm greys peppered with a warm black, light purples, creams and the feeling of the products is quality. So my brief is to ensure this look moved across all packaging. This means minimalism, understated and simple design as the centre focus. As a packaging designer, often we want to pack a punch, we want to shout about the product as it will appear online or in-store so it can be very hard to exercise restraint and evoke luxury, simplicity and elegance at the same time. But the brand works in a sea of brash bright colours and sits on its own in a mature and centered way. I created rules and dedicated look for each of the items using the colours from the brand but the real test was in the finish of the board used. Currently being trialed is a variety of finishes and ensuring the colours work over all products. Not as easy a task as you would think initially but we are getting there. The work I am doing is very technical at times but the overall look will be worth it. Below is the first product of many that have printed and launched. There is so much more to come from this brand and I am delighted to be part of the story.
